Minutes of the Business Meeting of
The South-Central Renaissance Conference, 20 March 2010

  1. The minutes from the 2009 general business meeting were approved.
  2. President Jill Carrington thanked the members of the 2009-2010 executive board, the program chair Irving Kelter, and the local host Catherine Cox for their work.
  3. A summary of the executive committee’s meeting was provided:
    1. Current membership stands at 163 members.
    2. Finances total $34,699.
    3. The 2010 Program included 107 paper presentations.
    4. The nominations for the 2010-2011 board (Catherine Loomis and Timothy McKinney) were presented and approved by the general membership.
    5. Thomas Herron will succeed Frances Malpezzi as editor of EIRC.
    6. The bylaws have been revised to add representation of the three affiliate societies (Queen Elizabeth I Society, Andrew Marvell Society, the Society for Renaissance Art History) to the executive committee. Charles Beem will represent the QEIS, while the AMS and SRAH representatives remain to be determined.
    7. Irving Kelter and Liana Cheney will serve as SCRC contacts for the RSA. Anyone interested in submitting an SCRC panel to the RSA should contact these members.
    8. The 2011 conference will be March 3-5 in St. Louis, hosted by Don Stump and Thomas Madden of the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies at St. Louis University. Sean Benson is the program chair. The 2011 conference will also be the 60th anniversary of SCRC.
    9. We are still in need of a host for 2012 as well as beyond. For 2012, SCRC will offer up to $2000 to the local host institution to help cover costs.
  4. The membership was encouraged to contribute to the graduate student travel fund.
  5. The meeting was adjourned at 8:37 AM.
